Mass regularisation in Spain: latest updates, key dates and requirements
Important update: the mass regularisation process in Spain is still in draft form, but key dates and supporting documents are already beginning to take shape.
In recent weeks, there have been important developments regarding the regularisation of foreign nationals in Spain. Although the final text has not yet been published in the BOE, some administrative steps and likely timelines are already known and should be taken into account.
When will the regularisation come into force?
The draft is currently under review. The process is expected to follow these steps:
- Review of the second draft
- Assessment by the Council of State
- Approval by the Council of Ministers
Estimated timing: if the administrative deadlines are met, and bearing in mind the proximity of Easter and its bank holidays, the regularisation could come into force in mid-April 2026.
This would mean that the first applications could begin to be submitted around that time.
Recommended documents to prepare now
Although the final requirements have not yet been officially confirmed, we recommend preparing the following documents in advance:
- Valid passport
- Criminal record certificate from the country of origin (apostilled or legalised)
- Certificate of registration on the municipal census (empadronamiento)
Important: these certificates are generally valid for around 3 months from the date of issue (unless the original document states otherwise).
We recommend requesting them at the end of March or in early April so that they do not expire before the application can be submitted.
Proof of stay in Spain
It is also advisable to gather documents showing your stay in Spain over the past few months. Although this has not been confirmed as a compulsory requirement, it may be requested.
- Medical reports or appointments
- Bank transfers
- Card transactions
- Letters or postal deliveries
Professional recommendation: gather evidence covering at least the last 5 months so that you are prepared for any administrative requirement.
⚖️ Current situation: still in draft form
It is important to remember that all of this information comes from a draft that has not yet been published in the BOE. For that reason, the requirements may still change.
